Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is desperate to sign highly-rated Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara , according to the Mail Online.

Guardiola, who managed Thiago at both Barcelona and Bayern, wants the the 27-year-old to inject some energy into his ageing midfield, with David Silva and Fernandinho in their thirties.

The City boss has said about Silva: ‘Next season, David maybe will not play every game, that’s why the squad has to be big.’

It wouldn’t be the first time Thiago has followed Guardiola to a new club – he signed for Bayern immediately after Pep’s arrival in 2013.

He is under contract at the German giants until 2021 and is believed to be valued at around £50 million.

The Spanish international would be the ideal replacement for his compatriot Silva with his ability to dictate play and chip in with the occasional goal from midfield.
