Chelsea manager news: Maurizio Sarri in talks about Napoli contract extension

Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri has been linked with replacing Antonio Conte at Chelsea

Thursday, May 17, 2018

Chelsea’s hopes of appointing Maurizio Sarri as manager appear over after it emerged the manager could sign a new deal with Napoli .

The 59-year-old had emerged as a replacement for Antonio Conte, who is widely expected to leave after the FA Cup final on 19 May.

Under Sarri, Napoli narrowly missed out on a first Serie A title since 1990 and it has been reported Chelsea would need to pay €8m to get him out of his current contract.

However, according to Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport, the Italian side’s owner, Aurelio De Laurentiis has moved to keep him away from the Premier League .

That includes paying him a reported €4million (£3.5m) and getting rid of a release clause.

And Sky Sport Italia claim Sarri and De Laurentiis had a two-hour meeting on Wednesday, where it is understood a new deal was discussed, although he is yet to commit his future to the Serie A side.

It is understood they will meet again, but if no deal can be sorted out, then Napoli could turn to Carlo Ancelotti .
