Arsenal set to sign Germany goalkeeper Bernd Leno to replace Petr Cech as Unai Emery’s No1

DEAL CLOSE?

The 26-year-old will reportedly join the Gunners for around £22m

Arsenal are set to sign Germany goalkeeper Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen, according to reports.

Leno, 26, has been regarded as one of Europe’s finest young glovesman for a number of years, though his development seems to have stalled in Germany and he wants to secure a move elsewhere to get his career back on track.

Despite representing his nation on six occasions, and being named in Germany’s Confederations Cup winning squad last year, Joachim Low did not select Leno for his final 23-man group being taken to the World Cup.

And it appears Arsenal are going to offer Leno the chance to continue his career in north London.

SPORT BILD in Germany report that Leno is expected to join the Gunners, with an official announcement expected soon.

Leno will transfer for a fee worth between £18m and £22m, and will become Unai Emery’s No1 at the Emirates, with veteran keeper Petr Cech staying on at the club in a supporting role.

Arsenal have already completed the signing of Stephan Lichtsteiner on a free transfer from Juventus, and they are expected to bring in Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis and Lucas Torreira, the Sampdoria midfielder, in the near future.
