Liverpool are set to miss out on signing Roma goalkeeper Alisson after the club’s president, James Pallotta confirmed he was close to joining Real Madrid.

But now it appears the Spanish giants, who beat them 3-1 in the 2017/18 Champions League final are set for victory again as they pip the Merseysiders to his signature.

The Roma president was visiting Naples when approached by journalists from arenanapoli.it and asked if it was possible for Napoli to land Alisson, he replied: “No, [Napoli president Aurelio] De Laurentiis doesn’t want to spend all his money.

“€78million [£68m] is needed and he’s close to joining Real Madrid.”

Speculation has been rife about Alisson joining Liverpool with Jurgen Klopp unable to trust either Simon Mignolet or Loris Karius.

And now the German boss will have to go back to the drawing board if he does want to sign a replacement for the pair.
