The longest managerial transfer saga in recent memory appears to be drawing to a close
Maurizio Sarri is finally on the brink of becoming Chelsea’s new manager, Napoli’s president Aurelio De Laurentiis has confirmed.
The progress comes in the wake of the Blues’ speedy pursuit of midfielder Jorginho, who is understood to have played a key role in Sarri’s switch.
De Laurentiis announced on Wednesday: “Sarri is close to be new Chelsea manager.
“My lawyers are in talks with his lawyers to finalise everything.”
The president also addressed Jorginho’s situation, admitting the club had previously made a deal with Manchester City, but that the Italian would now head to Stamford Bridge instead.
“I’m sorry with Manchester City because we reached an agreement for Jorginho 15 days ago.
“But Chelsea is going to offer more to Napoli and to Jorginho for his contract, so he’ll join Chelsea I guess”
“If the player would rather live in London than Manchester, I can understand that.“
Jorginho was seen boarding a plane to London on Wednesday morning.
